The Red Baron or his real name Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen ( geez thats a mouthful) , was a German fighter pilot in the First World War. He was the best fighter ace on earth to be honest, because he has been credited 80 air combat victories! Now in case you don’t know that’s amazing.
He flew the original Fokker DR1 Dreidecker was one of the best planes in those days.
The Red Baron was born on 2nd of May 1892 and died on the 21st of April 1918 but more on that later.
He served from 1911 to 1918 and in that time he had been given many awards in his time including… Pour le Merite, Order of the Red Eagle, House Order of Hohenzollern and last but absolutely NOT lest the Iron Cross.
When he was a young lad he joined the military and became a part of the Unlan. The Unlan was a Polish light cavalry armed with lances, sabres and pistols. Unlan means “young man” and/or “brave warrior”.
So the Red Baron died in 1918, shot down by allied forces so the great man was gone but he forever will be the best pilot who flew in the sky.
